Charles Chauvel is confident he can win the seat
Out Labour MP is expressing confidence he will win the Ohariu electorate, where National has stitched up a deal in an attempt to get United Future Leader Peter Dunne home.

National will only be asking supporters for party vote in the Wellington seat, where Dunne's majority has been declining - in 2008 he gained just over a thousand votes more than Chauvel and more than 2,000 more votes more than National candidate Katrina Shanks.

Chauvel lost the seat by less than a thousand votes and has told media today he disagrees with such deals saying, voters don't like being told what to do.

Green Party candidate Gareth Hughes has already indicated he will only campaign for the party vote in Ohariu and will encourage Green supporters to give their electorate vote to Chauvel, who says the party has done so independently and he would never have sought it out. He says National has treated Shanks terribly as she has worked hard on her campaign.

The Dominion Post reports it understands recent polling by Labour puts Chauvel ahead of both Shanks and Dunne.
