Family First's attempt to label the Labour Party as supportive of polygamy is "just sad", says Labour MP Charles Chauvel.

The right-wing Christian lobby group slammed what is saw as Labour's 'covert' agenda for recognizing polygamy, upon the discovery of a speech from Ruth Dyson which mentioned 'triple' relationships – a speech Dyson has since denied giving.

"Labour is redefining parenthood in a way nobody ever considered, and based on a ‘rights' and anti-discrimination culture, we may soon be legalising incestuous relationships," Family First announced this week.

"This latest outburst by the group shows that some Christian groups ignore the idea 'thou shalt not lie' when it suits them," Chauvel tells GayNZ.com.

"No suggestion has ever been made that the Labour Party supports polygamy," he says.

"Some group's attempts to paint Labour as a party run solely by gays and lesbians didn't work, so now they're trying this tactic. It's really just sad."
