An Auckland City councillor has raised conservative councillors' objections to the funding of the 20th Anniversary of Homosexual Law Reform function at the Town Hall in questioning the same councillors' proposed Rugby World Cup hospitality budget.

Politically conservative Citizens and Ratepayers councillors on the arts, culture and recreation committee have just approved a $33.8 million budget for Council spending related to the 2011 Cup, including a $320,000 hospitality fund.

However, City Vision councillor Cathy Casey has objected to the six figure hospitality budget "to feed canapes and alcohol" to visiting dignataries, when the C&R councillors robustly criticised a proposed $20,000 contribution towards a 2005 Town Hall function for glbt people and supporters marking twenty years since the bitterly fought campaign to have consensual sex between gay men decriminalised was won.


Then-mayor Dick Hubbard eventually contributed the $20,000 from a mayor's discretionary fund.
