Stenciled pavement notices designed to prevent drink-driving are amusing Aucklanders who are "not straight."

The notices, saying "Not straight? Don't drive. Plan to get home safely" are on pavements around popular drinking hotspots in the city, including Ponsonby Road – the home of many LGBT-owned businesses.

A GayNZ.com reader posted a picture of one of the signs on our Forum last night. "Found by one of my lovely straight flatmates who was slightly disturbed by it," they typed. "I said I would take the councils advice and not drive."

"I think I just wet myself," typed another Forum member. "That has to be the best sign ever!"

We also had an email from a pavement walker who said he was very annoyed by the sign. "Whoever okay'd this needs their head read," they observed.

Auckland Police are working with the City Council to prevent drink-driving during the holiday season with prevention campaigns and major breath-testing blitzes.
