After 34 years of sharing Kiwi gay community news, views, interviews and photos, the team behind New Zealand's longest-running gay male magazine has decided to end its print edition.
"We have to move with the times," Out! magazine editor Tony Katavich tells GayNZ.com.
The most recent issue, printed in February, has become the last issue ever, with no more editions planned to print.
"We're just following what everyone else is doing internationally," explains Katavich. "Times are tough for print media all over the world. We read of gay magazines closing every week."
The US-based gay porn magazine empire behind Mandate, Torso, Honcho, Playguy and Inches magazines announced last week that those titles would all cease publication, while other gay media groups in the USA and UK are struggling financially as the community they serve spends more time on the internet, getting their news and making their connections faster.
Katavich says he plans to expand and revamp Out! magazine's website with daily updated news and features.
