Anika Moa has received her third nomination for the nation's leading songwriting prize, this time for Running Through the Fire (Storm).
The track comes from the album Love In Motion, much of which was inspired by her wife Azaria Universe. The song is dripping with 80s feminine rock influences.
Moa has previously been nominated for Silver Scrolls for Stolen Hill in 2006 and Dreams In My Head in 2008.
Moa is up against The Mint Chicks, who also receive their third Silver Scroll nomination, this time for Say Goodbye.
The other three finalists are ex Fur Patrol frontwoman Julia Deans with A New Dialogue, indie favourites turned hitmakers Naked and Famous are for Young Blood and Auckland country/folk foursome Artisan Guns with Autumn.
The songs where whittled down by Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) members from a list of 20 finalists
APRA's Director of New Zealand Operations Anthony Healey says "The world changes rapidly but the one thing that is constant is a great song. It all starts with the song. Lyrics and melodies that stay etched in your mind. These five songs are wonderful examples of this."
The 2010 APRA Silver Scrolls Awards will be held on Wednesday 8 September at the Auckland Town Hall. There will also be another induction into the New Zealand Music Hall Of Fame, which welcomed The Topp Twins in 2008.
The winners will also be announced in the APRA Maioha Award, which celebrates contemporary Maori music, and the SOUNZ Contemporary Award, which honours contemporary classical composition.
