Drag entertainer Fur Purse will compete in tonight's Camp as Quiz Night - and is also preparing to frock up for a busy weekend, which will include her 'drag sister' Miss Mole's showcase pageant event Mr and Ms Pride 2008 at her Flamingo Bar.
Purse lives on the Kapiti Coast but is staying in Christchurch for Pride Week, which she's enjoying so far. Her week began with an invitation to the premeire of the Through Rainbow Coloured Glasses film documentary on Saturday night.
"I loved it," she tells GayNZ.com. "It was a sell-out night, with 350 seats full. They took over the whole [Regent] cinema with rainbow-coloured decorations, red carpet rolled out in the foyer, wine, nibbles, and even security guys in tuxedos - it was very glam.
"Things are a lot quieter on the Kapiti Coast, so I look forward to weeks like this when I can perform and be myself. It's my gay city," she smiles.
The Camp as Quiz begins at 7pm tonight at The Civic on Manchester Street. Spaces are still available for teams who wish to enter.
Meanwhile, Christchurch youth network Q-Topia's Pride Week event the Mad Hatter's Tea Party on Sunday at The Cup Cake Parlour has sold out. All 25 tickets to the fancy dress meal have been sold, and organisers have been told no more places can be made available in the small venue.
