A rugby team captain is on trial in the Timaru District Court after a male complainant says he was sexually assaulted by him.
Allenton Rugby team captain and senior B team manager Ronald Forsyth, 50, denies the incident ever happened and pleaded not guilty, reports the front page of today's Ashburton Guardian.
"There were suspicions among players in the Allenton rugby team that their club captain may be gay," the article begins.
A witness described seeing the complainant on the night of the alleged incident. He was shaking, dry-retching and said he thought he'd just been raped, the jury was told.
But the complainant had drunk alcohol while on anti-depressants that night, leading the defence to doubt his recollection of the assault.
Forsyth claims his sexual orientation is 'non-sexual' and that medication he is on prevents him from getting an erection and suppresses sexual urges. He had tried a same-sex partnership before and not liked it, reported the paper. © Copyright GayNZ.com |
