Reaching out: Oprah and the preggers man
Transgender American man Thomas Beatie has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey TV talk show to chat about becoming pregnant.

Beatie, 34, is a female to male transgender from Oregon, who kept his reproductive organs after sex reassignment surgery and is now five month pregnant. He appeared on the show with his wife who was unable to conceive due to a hysterectomy.

Beatie said he would not have borne a child if his wife had been able to.

"I have a very stable male gender identity. I see pregnancy as a process, and it doesn't define who I am. It's not a male or female desire to want to have a child…it's a human desire," he says.

"I'm a person, and I have the right to have my own biological child."
