As well as out Australian Matthew Mitcham scoring gold with sensational diving, six of the 13 out lesbian and bisexual women competing at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing ended up winning gold, silver, or bronze medals.

Katja Nyberg scored four goals for Norway in the women's handball final against Russia, while Gro Hammerseng scored the winning goal in the final second.

26-year-old Natasha Kai scored a game-winning goal for the U.S. in the women's soccer quarter-finals, and the team took home the gold at the final – for only the third time in the team's history.

Also, Vicky Galindo and Lauren Lappin helped their team secure a silver medal in women's softball.
