Leisha Hailey's popular The L Word character Alice Pieszecki has been revealed as the centre of a spin-off show to be filmed late this year for broadcast in the US next year.

Alice is a lesbian writer and radio broadcaster who was beginning a new career as a TV panel show host in The L Word's most recent episodes.

The sixth and final season of Californian lesbian drama will begin on US TV network Showtime in January.

Ilene Chaiken, creator and executive producer of The L Word, will write and produce the pilot involving Alice.

Having appeared as a central character on The L Word for six years, Hailey is now also promoting a new album as a member of rock band Uh Huh Her.
