The government of New South Wales has come to the party with funding for Sydney's annual Mardi Gras Festival.

The exact amount of funding is unknown at this stage, but Sydney Star Observer understands it is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Mardi Gras Festival – including the popular Parade and Party – injects an estimated AUS$30 million into New South Wales economy through tourism.

The Festival, which turned 30 this year, is in recent years turning a profit again, after struggling financially in the early years of this century. Organisers say the government funding will strengthen and sustain the Festival, and help promote it both nationally and internationally.
