A passionate gay kiss on British soap EastEnders resulted in 145 complaints to the BBC – but the broadcaster has defended itself by saying it treats gay relationships the same way as straight ones.

Some viewers commented that the programme's same-sex smooth set a "bad example" and could cause kids to become confused.

"We believe that the general tone and content of EastEnders is now widely recognised. Parents can make an informed decision as to whether they want their children to watch," the BBC responded.
