His partner David Furnish is reported to have spent the weekend by Sir Elton's bedside.

The 62-year-old entertainer is now recuperating, say UK newspapers, but was in a bad state on Friday, suffering stomach cramps and vomiting as he was admitted to hospital.

He had been ill for two weeks, forcing him to miss the funeral of Boyzone's gay star Stephen Gately.

Sir Elton had been scheduled to appear with rock legend Billy Joel at concerts in America this week.
