The creator of hit TV vampire drama True Blood says he'll add more gay characters to the show next year.

"There are a lot of gay characters in the books as you get further and further into them," showrunner Alan Ball told The Advocate. "We'll be introducing some of those gay characters this new season."

"We'll be meeting the vampire king of Mississippi and his long, long-term companion - and by long-term I mean really long-term - Talbot."

Meanwhile, the show's star Stephen Moyer - who's engaged to his Kiwi co-star Anna Paquin - has even joked about the possibility of filming a gay sex scene, saying he wouldn't be surprised if its writers made his character Bill shack up with Alexander Skarsgard's character Eric.

The show currently screens in New Zealand on Prime TV.
