A 17-year-old transgender jobseeker in Florida is filing a complaint with the state's Human Rights Commission after she was told "we do not hire faggots" by the manager of a McDonald's branch.
"I just wanted to earn to some money and was willing to work hard at this job," says Zikerria Bellamy, who was born male but has been living as a female for about six years. "In the current economy, jobs are really hard to find. I never expected to be judged on who I am, instead of being judged on whether I can do the job."
A recording of the McDonald's manager's phone message has surfaced on YouTube (shown below). The company's spokepeople said McDonald's will issue a statement about the incident soon.
