The leader of Chechnya has accused international organisations of distorting reality and attempting to blacken the Chechen society and traditions following world reports that gay men in the region are being tortured and detained.
Pink News reports that Ramzan Kadyrov has taken to social media to say that he met with the local human rights council and had worked with them to make a “grandiose improvement” to rights in Chechnya.

He went on to accuse international organisations of carrying out a “massive information attack using the most unworthy methods, reality is distorted, attempts are being made to blacken our society, lifestyle, traditions and customs.”
An investigation into the reports of the detainment, torture and killing of gay men has been launched by Russian Federal prosecutors.
"Currently, prosecutors from the Chechen Republic and the region’s law enforcement agencies have launched probes into the alleged abductions of people," the Russian Prosecutor-General’s Office press service said.
One of the journalists, Elena Milashine, who broke the story in a Russian independent newspaper told SBS News she will answer questions that investigators may have and defer her plans to flee Russia.
