Opening Night Gala 2026 begins with the announcement of the winners of the Peter Wells Short Fiction Contest.
The gala is presented in collaboration with Wheke Fortress, an ever-changing artist-run space where Māori and Pasifika queer artists create and connect. Writers from their wide-ranging DIY community will read new work and share their whakaaro with the festival.
