8.20PM: A block-long queue has formed outside Auckland's Power Station venue prior to the start of tonight's Odd Future concert, with no gay protest evident and little concern about anti-gay lyrics being acknowledged.

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, to give the confrontational American hip hop group its full name, is known for lyrics which sensationalise homophobia and violence including rape and was pulled from the lineup of this weekend's Big Day Out after pressure was applied by Mt Smart Stadium venue owners Auckland City.

"I’m not homophobic. I just think 'faggot' hits and hurts people. It hits. And 'gay' just means you’re stupid," one band member is on record as saying. "I don't know, we don’t think about it, we're just kids. We don’t think about that shit."

The young people waiting for the show tonight, most in their early 20s, seemed unaware of concerns by gay people that the group glorified violence against gays. "It's just music" said one young man. "Fucking great music!" shouted his friend to agreement from those standing nearby.

Asked in tonight's queue if they would be more concerned if the group spouted violence against ethnic minorities such as Maori, the mainly pakeha concert-goers looked momentarily confused then shook their heads "no".

Asked if they themselves would ever attack a gay person there was general agreement that they wouldn't, though one young man's shouted "only if he tried to fuck me!" comment drew widespread laughter.
