New Zealand's straight lesbian icon Lucy Lawless has discussed the respectfulness of her legion of fans, lesbian or not, across the globe.

In an interview with the Huffington Post about her role in the upcoming Spartacus: Vengeance, she laughed when she was asked whether her lesbian fans have tried to get her to switch teams.

"The great thing about my fans, lesbians or not, is they don't come on heavy-handed around me; they get too nervous around me. Their eyes go from left to right and they can't even look at me," she replied.

Lawless also brushed off a question about whether she was a bigger lesbian icon that Rosie O'Donnell by pointing out O'Donnell is a "living exponent".

The New Zealand actress gathered lesbian followers all over the world after playing Xena, in which she had an achingly ambiguous relationship with her travelling companion Gabrielle. In Spartacus: Gods of the Arena she had a number of lesbian sex scenes.

Lawless is married to producer Rob Tapert and has three children.
