A "new generation dance party" for ages 13 to 20 will support Auckland LGBT young people's network Rainbow Youth and also give an up-and-coming DJ a chance to shine.
Rainbow Youth coordinator Robert Marshall says the one-off party night in the middle of Auckland's HERO Festival will be "an event of epic proportions, not to be missed."
The PRISM Rainbow Youth Dance Party will be an alcohol, drug and smoke-free zone. The venue at Bacio (upstairs at 309 K' Road), DJ's Donald Bennett and Marty, and M2's dancefloor laserlights have all been provided free of charge, so the $10 ticket price goes directly to Rainbow Youth.
Marshall says: "There's never been a Queer Youth Dance Party during HERO - this is the first. And we're so proud to be a part of it."
Since 1989, Rainbow Youth has provided support, contacts, information, advocacy and education for Auckland's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Takataapui and Fa'afafine young people and their families/whanau.
Budding DJ's keen to spin their discs at the PRISM Party can bring their promo CD into Rainbow Youth's drop-in centre (281 K' Road) - any style of music will be considered, but house/electro is preferred.
PRISM Rainbow Youth Dance Party happens from 8pm until Midnight on Saturday 9 February. $10 tickets are available from Rainbow Youth's office at 281 K' Road.
