After eight years off-air, Joanne Clarke and friends from Agender Christchurch are back with TranSister Radio, bringing listeners news, events and music from the transgender communities.
"What's exciting this time is that technology has moved on, and now with podcasting we are able to reach a much bigger audience," says Clarke.
Clarke celebrates the 22nd anniversary of her sex-change surgery next month. Born in Gisborne and raised in Auckland, she has been a high profile transsexual since her late teens when she toured New Zealand with her family in the cabaret show Les Belle Boys.
Plains FM 96.9 Station Manager Nicki Reece says that with the Human Rights Commission's recent transgender report, this is a good time to re-launch TranSister Radio. The programme was a finalist in the 2000 New Zealand Radio Awards.
TranSister Radio's first guest for this week's episode was Human Rights Commissioner Joy Liddicoat. Guests booked for future programmes include transgender cop and Diversity Liaison Officer Sarah Lurajud and GayNZ.com's agony auntie 'Tranny Granny' Jacquie Grant.
TranSister Radio is broadcast on Tuesdays at 10pm on Christchurch's PlainsFM 96.9. The first episode can be downloaded via the link below, and future episodes will be listenable on GayNZ.com's podcast page and Agender Christchurch's website.
