Inspired by the Katy Perry hit I Kissed a Girl (And I Liked It), The Edge radio network's latest promotion aims to set a new world record for girls kissing girls.

Kissed a girl (& liked it): Katy Perry

"So at 4.30pm on Thursday 4th September, The Edge want as many girl 'couples' across New Zealand to pash for 20 seconds with one lucky girl/girl couple winning a trip to Melbourne to see Katy Perry live," says the radio station.

The 'kissoff' is scheduled to take place in 17 locations around New Zealand, including Auckland's Albert Park, Hamilton's Garden Place, Wellington's Central Train Station, Christchurch's Cathedral Square, and even spots in Taupo, New Plymouth, Nelson, Rotorua and Invercargill.

Interested applicants are invited to text the radio station to register. Kissers taking part will be offered Strawberry Chapstick and Hersheys Kisses chocolates along with the chance to win the Melbourne trip.

There is currently no World Record set for numbers of same-sex kissers, though 1,188 Parisians of various genders set the record for most people kissing at once in November 2006, and a London opposite-sex couple set a record for longest unbroken kiss in July 2005 with their 31-hour, 30-minute and 30-second smooch. Throughout the event they were not allowed to sit, or fall asleep, could only take sustenance through a straw and had to stay kissing even while visiting the toilet, the BBC reported.

The Edge's same-sex kissing promotion details are on the link below. If you are planning to take part in the contest, GayNZ.com would like to hear from you – email gaynz@woosh.co.nz.
