Just over three months out from the annual Hero Festival, Auckland's LGBT event organisers are keen to get to work planning a variety of events – but are still waiting for the go-ahead from the Hero Festival Trust.

Flirt women's night coordinator Sarah Lambourne says she's keen to once again contribute new events to the Hero line-up for February. "I've expressed my interest in planning fantastic things for girls to enjoy," she says. "I'm particularly keen to launch Flirt sporting events. But I don't know when the Festival dates are – I'm waiting for confirmation."

The promoter of K' Road's two-weekly Sohomo nights is in a similar position. "Myself and a number of others are keen to host something for Hero, but haven't been approached directly. It's not too far away now – and we do want to pitch our plans to them, but we're becoming disillusioned as no-one gets in touch."

Frederic Guillemont, Chairperson of the Hero Festival Trust Board, stepped down earlier this month, leading Board member Richard Kittelty to step into the position. GayNZ.com is endevouring to reach him for confirmed details about Hero 2009.

The Big Gay Out in Point Chev's Coyle Park has been confirmed for Sunday 8 February, with the same team and sponsors on board as last time. No other Festival dates have been confirmed so far.

M2 Events, the organisers of the four most recent Hero parties, are rumoured to be less involved with planning Hero events for next year, but declined to comment about their involvement at this stage.
