The event's creative director Jonathan Smith explains: "Presently this GuinnessWorld Record, set in 2005, has 24 males dressed in drag. We will break the record with at least 34 men dressed in drag. Easy!"

New Zealand's queerest pageant – featuring 'girls' from around the world and across the galaxy – is a fundraiser for local HIV-fighting charities. TVOne newsreader Alison Mau is confirmed as head judge, and this year's show will also include a performance from opera-singer Helen Medlyn.

This year's show is accompanied by a photographic exhibition of highlights from the pervious four shows and never-before-seen rehearsal peeks. The exhibition, which opened last night at the Aotea Centre, included three different audiovisual showings – one of last year's show, one a behind the scenes documentary, and one a slideshow of more photos.

Limited tickets for Saturday's Queen of the Whole Universe show are still available – booking details are on the link below.
