The date for next year's Out in the Square — Wellington's gay and lesbian fair — is set for Saturday 28 February 2009, and the event will now launch Proud '09 — Wellington's pride week, which will take place from 28 February until 7 March.

After a successful first year at Civic Square, the next Out in the Square will be even bigger and better, and hopefully all with a splash of sun, says organisers Out Wellington Inc.

The Fair will officially become part of another Wellington gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender event: Proud '09 — Wellington's pride week. 'Proud' was usually run later in the year, but this time organisers felt it suited a more 'summery' feel and the decision was made to join forces with Out in the Square. Both events are now organised by Out Wellington Inc.

"This is an exciting time for the Capital," says Out Wellington's Virginia Hopkins-Burns. "Two iconic rainbow events linking up can only mean one thing: the people of Wellington are in for one crazy week-long festival!"

Proud '09 will feature events such as a short film festival, summer pool extravaganza, an alcohol-free youth party, music gigs, and much more.

"We're just putting the final touches on our list of fantastic events," Hopkins-Burns continues. Out Wellington is also looking for exciting and colourful stalls for Out in the Square. There are still a few sites available, but places are filling fast, she says.

"Rock up to our website for all the details on Out in the Square, and we look forward to seeing you all at Proud '09!"
