Ambach trial Day 7

Ferdinand Ambach took the witness stand today, telling a High Court jury that he has only vague memories of the night he is alleged to have murdered gay Onehunga man Ron Brown.

Ambach was found by police in an agitated state upstairs in Brown's home while the elderly man lay bloodied and beaten downstairs. Brown died two days later, in early December 2007, the victim of what Ambach's lawyer suggested was an attack carried out as a result of a "monstrous rage."

Ambach described Brown making two sexual advances towards him after the pair had been drinking. He says he felt trapped and even unable to physically move, with his defence suggesting that he had been drugged.

During cross-examination Ambach's evidence seemed at times contradictory and he strongly denied many items of testimony given by witnesses over the past week.
