Kiwi songstress Anika Moa has civil unioned with her girlfriend in a private ceremony in Hokianga on Northland's West Coast this week.
The couple did not invite media to the event, but a friend of the pair says both women wore beautiful white dresses for their outdoor ceremony by the water's edge at the Hokianga Copthorne Hotel and Resort on Tuesday.
"The couple looked gorgeous and it was truly a romantic day," a source tells GayNZ.com. "A selected gathering of their friends and family wished them well."
Anika came out publicly in an interview with the NZ Herald's Canvass magazine in 2007, saying "I never know who I'm going to fall in love with - but I do prefer women."
