The Hikoi on Heels is rolling on in to Auckland's Family Bar tonight and it will be a sight to behold - a 'busload' of drag queens will take to the stage to perform an incredible 14 shows.

The event, which began in Northland, is hitting a series of venues nationwide over the coming weeks to raise money for the 2010 Hui Takatapui, which will focus on the health and wellbeing of Maori and youth.

MC Miss Ribena says the first leg at Whangarei's Danger Danger last weekend was a good start. "I would say there was about 120 to 150 through the doors. And it was a straight nightclub venue, which was a bit different of course."

She is expecting a large turnout in Auckland tonight, considering the city's significant gay population. There will be a massive 14 shows on the stage of the K' Rd venue, a feat of organisation which is hardly causing Ribena to break a sweat, "I just rally them all darling," she laughs.

The hostess says it's a "you name it I've got it" line-up of talent, from Cindy of Samoa and Karma Chaos to the Finale Girls.

The event kicks off at 9pm, but Ribena is advising people to arrive at 8pm. Family is giving 10 percent of its bar take, while a gold coin donation will be requested on entry. Organisers are hoping to raise $12,000 for the hui.

Hikoi on Heels will roll on down to Hamilton's Shine Bar on 7 August, Christchurch's Cruz Bar on 14 August and Wellington's Club Ivy on 21 August.
