GALS (Gay & Lesbian Singers) concerts on June 27 or 28 are intended to brighten up winter. After a fabulous summer and autumn, winter has suddenly arrived and with a vengeance. Get rid of those winter blues by attending a concert full of cheerful harmonies.
Titled Always look on the bright side, the programme has been developed specifically to create an upbeat and positive atmosphere. As the winter winds blow and the economy weakens, we all need a reminder that life can be good, especially in the company of friends. And what can be better than music to lift the spirits and provide a perfect antidote to that dreaded R word?
From a finger-snapping version of Rock Around the Clock to the perennial GALS favourite, Happy Together, the songs will have the audience humming along. Those who missed out on a ticket to see Simon & Garfunkel will be able to enjoy GALS' rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Water. There'll be lots of variety, and the women of GALS again perform several numbers as a group, delighting the audience with their special energy.
GALS welcomes as special guests, In Cahoots, a newly-formed cabaret group who had their inaugural show last year. Musical Director Emeritus Margaret Robertson returns as a guest too.
GALS concerts, held in the Centennial Theatre of Auckland Grammar, Mountain Rd, Epsom, start at 5:30 in the evening, so you can meet up with a group of friends and go out for a drink or a meal afterwards.
There is now an additional outlet for ticket purchase: GALS offers the option of buying tickets online at http://www.iticket.co.nz/- what could be easier? Tickets are still available from a GALS member, the Woman's Bookshop or tickets@gals.org.nz.
GayNZ.com is proud to provide a online home for GALS. Check out its official webpage here.
