Queensland's government will close the state's "gay panic" loophole, which allows gay advances to be used as a partial defence for violent crimes.
Under current laws, unwanted advances can be used as a partial provocation defence to violent crimes.
Attorney-General Paul Lucas says the government will adopt changes to the law the Queensland Law Reform Commission recommended last week. He says the laws will be amended to ensure that an unwanted sexual advance will only count as provocation in exceptional circumstances such as abuse.
New Zealand's partial defence of provocation was repealed by the Government in 2009.
