As the papal conclave looms, it’s been revealed the Holy See has bought multi-million dollar share of a Rome apartment block that is home to Europe’s biggest gay sauna.

There are 19 Vatican apartments in the block, which also houses Europa Multiclub.

The sauna's wesbite

The sauna’s website promotes one of its special bear nights, with a video in which a bear strips down before changing into a priest’s outfit. It says Bruno, “a hairy, overweight pastor of souls, is free to the music of his clergyman, remaining in a thong, because he wants to expose body and soul”.

The 76-year-old Cardinal Ivan Dias, the head of the Congregation for Evangelisation of Peoples, known as the “prince of the church” enjoys a 12-room apartment on the first-floor of the complex, not far from the sauna’s entrance.

It comes as the Vatican is still reeling from allegations that Benedict XVI quit in reaction to the presence of a gay underground network.
