French senate backs adoption reforms

France’s senate has approved adoption reforms, hot on the heels of voting in favour of introducing marriage equality.

The second article of a Bill before the upper level of the French Parliament has been backed by a majority.

The Senate will now complete a review of the Bill in its entirety, although Gay Star News reports that the passage of both articles now almost guarantees that LGBT couples will soon be able to marry and adopt in France.

Once approved, France’s Marriage Equality Bill will go back to the National Assembly in late May 2013 for final approval.

It will then go to French President François Hollande to sign into law.
