A senior teacher at an exclusive AUS$15,000 (NZ$18,450)-a-year Sydney school has resigned after students viewed naked pictures of him on a gay dating website.

The Pittwater House High School teacher, who had taught at the school for 15 years, used a distinctive word as his username while accessing an educational website during a presentation to Year 11 students.

The word he used was his profile name for a gay dating website and was visible on the projector for students to see, reports the Manly Daily.

Several students noticed the strange username and put the word into the Google search engine.

The first result that appeared was an explicit personal profile for the teacher, in which he advertised himself as a "40-year-old cuddly bear who is looking for "a fuckbuddy/friend for fun."

Once the profile was accessed in full, it is understood to have contained a description of his genitals, sexual fetishes as well as several naked pictures.
