Australians have taken to the streets in the biggest-ever rallies for same-sex marriage.
Marches and events were held yesterday in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, Hobart, Perth and several other centres.
Samesame.com.au says they together massed well over 10,000 people in the Equal Love campaign.
It says the Melbourne crowd was by far the biggest seen at a same-sex marriage rally this year, and Sydney appeared to have double the marchers it had attracted for a protest in May.
ABC reports hundreds of people rallied outside Parliament House in Hobart and knocked down a symbolic wall of discrimination.
Rodney Croome from the Gay and Lesbian Rights Group said "The people here are saying to both major parties it's time to stop bigotry, stop discrimination.
"It's time to treat all Australians equally."
The rallies marked six years since the Marriage Act was amended to specifically exclude same-sex couples.
The next nationwide ‘day of action' is planned for Saturday 27 November.
